Saniflo macerator comprises three major components namely, the container, pressure chamber and induction motor. The container holds the operating mechanism and the pressure chamber functions automatically to activate and deactivate the system. The induction motor drives the macerator blade and impeller pump. When water and waste material enter the unit, the water level starts rising and triggers a switch within the pressure chamber, so as to activate the motor and the pumping process. The blade shreds the waste and passes it to the impeller pump, which discharges it to the outlet pipe connected to the sewer. That said, the underlying process of a macerating system is clear, and as the pump comes as a completely assembled unit, it is easy to install the system. But, it is essential to understand how to use the system and avoid any problems. The necessary cautions to avoid Saniflo problems are given below:

Ensure that the installation process is perfect, complying with the instructions given by the manufacturer. Conforming to this basic step goes a long way in avoiding any problems in the future.

A few cautions to be exercised in the regular use of Saniflo will contribute to keep off problems. These are detailed below:

As the unit is designed for disposal of organic waste products, water and paper, it is important to ensure that nothing other than the aforementioned products enter the macerator. For instance, it is not intended for disposing kitchen waste. It can be connected to a toilet and other fixtures in the bathroom namely, the sink or tub.

Any toilet overflow must be fixed immediately because it causes the macerator to get filled in short time spans. Once the device senses water, it would get activated to empty the water, and as this process goes on and on, the motor is likely to get burned by frequent overuse. The same applies for taps that drain into the macerator. Leaky taps and drippy taps must be fixed immediately. In case you notice that the system is active even when the taps or toilet are not being uses, you must identify the leaks or overflows and fix them.

Unsafe use increases the likelihood of causing malfunction in the unit. Therefore, it is important to instruct visitors about the usage guidelines, if they are likely to stay longer at your home. Things like baby wipes, ear buds and sanitary pads will cause damage to the unit, which could cease functioning.

Make use of the Saniflo de-scaling cleanser, which has been custom-made for the product. The usage instructions come with the package. The cleanser not only ensures longevity for the system, but also disinfects and cleans the interior chamber of the system.

Saniflo macerator models consume less water and do not need special maintenance. They don’t have brushes or gears that wear out with time, and the motor is oil-filled and sealed forever. There is no talk of replacement provided they are used for whatever purpose they are designed.

Cut the power supply to the macerator and pour bleach or household disinfectant into the toilet.

Flush the toilet, so that the disinfectant moves to the macerator, and stays there till the power is switched on. Let it soak in the bleach or disinfectant for about two hours.

Turn on the power; the macerator will agitate the water in it and pump it out, so that the lines are disinfected.

The macerator system is effective and useful for houses where gravity cannot be used to remove waste, due to the location of the toilet or the solid waste line. Routine cleansing with disinfectants ensures its longevity, though blockages that occur in rare occasions can be troubleshot and solved.
